Contemporary Chinese Knife Paintings

Knife Paintings are commonly used in China to depict its unique and varied sceneries. Images are formed with each scrape of a painting knife to give the artwork a more abstract feel. The knife paintings we carry are more of a contemporary style in that it combines the Western technique of oil painting with the more traditional method of Chinese brush painting. Although the artists use oil-based paint to add texture to the artwork, the layers of paint used are much less than that of regular oil paintings and conventional knife paintings. This fresh approach to knife painting enables the artists to fully capture the wondrous mountains and rivers that are found throughout China.
